PITTSBURG, Kan. --
Eliza Dye and
Felice Mullinax set program records as the LeTourneau women's track and field team concluded the indoor season over the weekend at the 10th annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic, hosted by Division II member Pittsburg State.
Those two program records were set and another record was established for the YellowJackets during the weekend.
" felt like the performances we saw this weekend from our women were long due, and wow was it exciting out there to see all of them competing like they did," said director of track and field
Dillon May. "Not only does every woman on the trip go home as a school record holder, they go home as a really tight knit group and team. They all did an incredible job supporting each other before and after their events and staying engaged in the meet."
On Friday, Dye broke the program record in the pole vault as she cleared a height of 3.15 meters (10'4) and finished 12th overall in the event. Dye nearly set the record in last week's meet and achieved the feat this week on her first attempt. Dye is currently 11th in the West region with the mark.
Mullinax got into the program-record business as well with her time in the 800-meter. The freshman came in with a program-best time of 2:23.42 and was 25th overall to break the record by nearly three seconds. The time moved Mullinax to eighth in the West region.
LeTourneau had two more personal records set in the 800-meter as
Hope Greenwald (2:28.32) and
Madelyn DeLosSantos (2:28.74) topped their previous career bests in the indoor event.
For the first time in program history, the YellowJackets competed in the distance medley relay. The quartet of
Alayna Galloway,
Victoria Wilson, DeLosSantos, and Greenwald combined to finish in a time of 13:37.04 to establish the initial time in program history.
In the 4x400 relay, it was Wilson, DeLosSantos, Mullinax, and Greenwald teaming up for a time of 4:18.12.
Both Galloway and Wilson competed in one other event during the weekend. Galloway finished the mile run in 5:47.77 and Wilson ran a 9.74 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims on Friday.
"To leave this weekend with three new records for the women is really special and serves as a testimony to the determination and grit they brought to the meet. I'm really proud of how they competed this weekend and represented our Lord and savior Jesus Christ in everything they did," added May.
