BELTON, Texas --
Fernando Vazquez and
Diego Maldonado teamed up for a bracket title and the LeTourneau men's tennis team opened the season at the Crusader Invitational over the weekend in Belton.
LeTourneau players tallied 18 singles wins and 10 more on the doubles side in the individual tournament.
Vazquez and Maldonado earned the Flight C bracket title with a perfect 3-0 record. The duo defeated Concordia Texas' Graham Beevers and Jake Riggs 8-3 in the first round before taking down St. Thomas' Sawyer White and Wilson Salazar 8-5 in the second. In the championship, the tandem defeated Southwestern's Rishi Rajesh and Landon Sosebee by an 8-5 final.
Vazquez and Maldonado also collected a win each in singles play. Vazquez downed White 6-1, 6-1, while Maldonado took a first-round win over St. Thomas' Andres Mora 6-4, 6-1.
Timothy Black,
Mason Browne,
Hayden Harry,
Brayden Money, and
Liam Wedge all had two wins each in singles play.
Black earned a round one victory over McMurry's Jorge Estrada 6-1, 6-3 and then reached the bracket final with a 6-3, 4-0, retirement over Mary Hardin-Baylor's Will McMurry. Harry took a pair of wins in his bracket draw with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Schreiner's Austin Dimmick and a 6-4, 6-4 win over Andrew Reyes in the consolation finale.
Money took a first round win over Dallas' Cristian DeLira in three sets 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-3 and then took a three-set win over Mary Hardin-Baylor's Francisco Huerta 0-6, 6-3, 10-5. Wedge had a three-set win over Jack Greenwald of McMurry in the first round 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 and then defeated Maldonado in a consolation round 6-3, 6-1.
Browne earned two wins in his draw. The freshman took a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Texas Lutheran's Alejandro Alvarez and then took the consolation finale with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Howard Payne's Ben Mabry.

Kale Crenshaw,
Zach Farris,
Jared Hodge,
Josiah Nellis, and
Andrew Reiman also took wins in the singles portion of the tournament.
In doubles, Black and Harry went 2-1 with wins over teams from Concordia Texas and Howard Payne. All seven doubles teams from LeTourneau had at least one win.
