BELTON, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's tennis team opened the fall season last weekend at the Crusader Invitational, hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor.
LeTourneau won 11 singles matches in the individual tournament and four on the doubles side.Â
Kylie Weeks took her draw's consolation bracket with a 2-1 record. Weeks narrowly fell in her opener to Southwestern's Katia Childs in three sets, but responded by taking wins over opponents from Mary Hardin-Baylor and St. Thomas. She defeated UMHB's Masyn Knight 6-3, 6-0 before taking down St. Thomas' Adriana Iturralde 7-5, 6-1 on the consolation side.
Anaiah Smith also went 2-1 in singles play. The freshman dropped a three-set decision in the first round, but then defeated Texas Lutheran's Kassidee Webb 6-4, 6-2 and Southwestern's Kinverly Ibarra 6-1, 6-1 to finish the tournament.
Mackenzie Borhofen notched a 3-0 record in her flight with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Dallas' Cecilia Webb before a 6-2, 6-3 win over McMurry's McKenna Owens. In her finale, she defeated Schreiner's Sara Becerril 6-2, 6-2.
Chloe Tesser notched a pair of wins as well. Tesser knocked off Ibarra 7-5, 6-3 in the first round and then took a 6-4, 6-2 win over St. Thomas' 6-4, 6-2.
Maddie Nichol and
Lindley Vickers also collected singles wins as all six players recorded at least one win.
In doubles, Smith and Tesser went 2-1, advancing to the bracket final. The tandem defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor's Leane Marie and Masyn Knight 8-5 in the first round before an 8-2 win over Texas Lutheran's Isabella Hill and Farah Stanley.
Weeks and Nichol combined for a win over Schreiner's Maya Jackson and Sonnea Garcia, while Vickers and Borhofen earned an 8-1 win over Dallas' Evelyn Powell and Cecilia Webb.
