LAKE CHARLES, La. -- A pair of program records fell as men's track and field impressed at the season-opening McNeese Indoor I.
Calvin Mason shattered the program's indoor weight throw record with a mark of 16.17 meters (53' 0.75"), placing him third of 15 competitors. Mason continued his successful day in the ring with a shot put throw of 15.35 meters (50' 4.5"), which placed him fourth out of 15.Â
A pair of YellowJackets also made their collegiate debut in the ring in
Mason Thompson and
Erik Lindgren. Thompson recorded an 8.61 meter (28' 3") mark in the shot and a 10.97 meter (36') mark in the weight throw. Lindgren notched a 10.67 meter (35' 0.25") in the weight throw.
Xander Nabors turned heads in his track and field debut as well, taking down the program's 55-meter dash record with a 6.78, placing him fifth.
Ben Sweatt followed with a personal-best of 7.01, while
Seth Barker notched a 7.09 in the event. Sweatt also placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.6 meters (44' 7.5").
Nabors managed fifth out of 16 competitors in the 200-meter run with a time of 23.46, as Barker also recorded a 25.53 in the event.
It was a successful day in the 600-meter for LeTourneau as
Austin Jett (1:29.18),
Justin Lindberg (1:33.62), and
Jean-Michel Ndiaye (1:34.31) all recorded personal bests in the event, while
Xavier Davila led the team in his first meet with a 6th place finish and a time of 1:27.36.
Chris Morelli also notched a 1:31.16 in his collegiate debut.
Grayson Gaddis earned a top-three finish amongst 13 runners in the mile with a 4:31.42, while
Gavin Smith and
Ike Lehman recorded a 4:51.57 (6th) and 5:00.87, respectively.
Alexander Hoksbergen and
James Kearsing recorded personal bests in their respective events. Hoksbergen ran a 9:30.16 in the 3000-meter, while Kearsing earned a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a 6.51-meter (21' 4.25") mark.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Lindberg, Morelli, Davila, and Jett recorded a 3:43.58 and placed 6th in the event.

UP NEXT
LeTourneau will head to Houston next Saturday, Jan. 24, to compete in the Fastrak Athletix Collegiate Challenge.
