SUWANEE, Ga. -- Coming off a record performance in the outdoor opener, LeTourneau men's track and field junior
Calvin Mason was named the SCAC Field Athlete of the Week, announced the league on Tuesday.
Mason becomes the first YellowJacket to garner a weekly accolade in the SCAC. It is the first career weekly award for Mason.
A junior from New London, Texas, Mason set a program record in the shot put with a mark of 16.21 meters (53' 2.25"), shattering his previous program-best, and won the event at the LeTourneau Invitational. The mark also placed him second in the nation in the event. Mason placed second in the discus with a distance of 42.62 meters (139' 10").
Mason is coming off an indoor season that saw him finish in the top-five regionally in both shot put and weight throw events. He was second regionally in the shot put at 15.51 meters (50' 10.75"), a mark he set at the LSU Twilight meet in February. Mason was also fourth in the weight throw with a program-best distance of 16.80 meters (55' 1.5") at the LSU Twilight meet.
LeTourneau returns to action on Saturday at the Cowboy Relays, hosted by McNeese.
