TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Baseball Seeks First SCAC Championship

LONGVIEW, Texas -- In its inaugural year in the conference, the LeTourneau baseball team has earned a bye and the No. 2 seed in the SCAC Championships Tournament, with the YellowJackets slated to play Friday at 3 p.m.at La Moderna Field in Cleburne, Texas.

LeTourneau will face the highest-seeded 1-0 team following Thursday's opening round.

DETAILS:

TOURNAMENT NOTES:

  • No team is hotter than the Electric Factory heading into the tournament. LeTourneau (23-17, 20-10 SCAC) closed out the regular season on a program-record nine-game win streak.
  • LeTourneau came up just short of the regular-season title. The YellowJackets' 20-10 conference record was just one game back of No. 1-seed Texas Lutheran. The Bulldogs took the regular season series 2-1, with all three games being close contests.
  • LeTourneau has an 11-4 record against tournament teams, with Concordia Texas, McMurry, Hendrix, and Centenary rounding out seeds 3-6.
  • The long ball has been LeTourneau's friend in 2026, as the team's 31 homers lead tournament teams. LeTourneau has four players with four-plus bombs this season, the only tournament team to have more than two players with such a statistic.
  • LeTourneau's 62 in doubles in conference play is first among SCAC teams.
  • The YellowJackets have swiped 99 bases this season, first among tournament teams. LeTourneau has seven games this year with five or more stolen bases. Zach Baker leads the way with 18 bags swiped.
  • Blake Vice has been a slugging machine this season, leading the way with seven homers. The senior catcher has posted a 1.019 OPS in his final year with the squad, leading the team.
  • Jack Kale's bat ignited once conference play began, ranking fourth in the conference in RBIs with 32 in league games. Kale is batting a career-high .333 this season, and was named SCAC Hitter of the Week for his three-homer weekend in the Jackets' sweep of Hendrix.
  • Despite missing seven games due to injury, Chris Savage leads LeTourneau in several offensive categories. The grad transfer is hitting .351 with a .970 OPS, has 47 hits, six homers (T-8th SCAC), 15 extra-base hits, 32 RBIs, and a team high 74 total bases.
  • Cody Brady has made a massive leap in his sophomore season. The everyday shortstop leads the team with 48 hits, has 71 total bases with four homers, and is second on the squad with a .348 batting average.
  • Team ace Clayton Holt has put together a resume worthy of a second straight first-team all-conference nod. Holt has posted a 3.49 ERA (fifth in SCAC) with 65 strikeouts (third in SCAC). Across his last three starts -- which included a complete-game shutout of Hendrix on April 16 -- Holt has a 1.52 ERA in 23.2 innings pitched with 24 strikeouts.
  • LeTourneau's three-headed bullpen monster of Camden Miller, Will Podsednik, and Cruz Cox accounts for 72 innings pitched this season. Miller has thrown a team-high 17 appearances this year with 31.2 innings pitched, Podsednik has five multi-inning scoreless appearances, and Cox's eight saves is top five in the nation.
  • Austin Wiederhold has yet again done what he does best: get on base. The everyday second baseman has a team-high .478 OBP, and his 38 walks on the year tied a program single-season record.
  • Heavy rain is in the forecast during Thursday and Friday at the SCAC Tournament. For the latest updates on delays and adjustments, check the baseball schedule page at letuathletics.com and follow LeTourneau athletics on Twitter/X.
