YellowJackets Fall to Hardin-Simmons on Senior Day, 3-0

Box Score

The LeTourneau University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision on Senior Day to Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday evening at the LETU Soccer Field.

The Cowboys (6-3-5, 4-0-4 ASC) quickly built a 2-0 lead on the host YellowJackets as Ruben Dominguez and Kevin McNeal scored in the third and ninth minute, respectively.

The LeTourneau (5-10-1, 3-4 ASC) attack assembled for three shots in the first 45 minutes to cut into the lead. Freshman Adam Schultz had a pair of shots in the 33rd minute blocked by the visitors' defense.

In the second half, LeTourneau had possession of the ball more than it did in the first 45 minutes. Plus, they had two opportunities in the 55th minute including another by Schultz and sophomore Mario Lopez that were successfully saved by the HSU goalkeeper. Despite the loss, LeTourneau sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Barba made 10 saves for the YellowJackets.

Hardin-Simmons outshot LETU by a 22-9 margin and goalkeeper Michael Vargas made three saves for the shutout. McNeal added a second goal in the 65th minute when a shot ricocheted off the post and into the goal.

The loss spoiled the final home game for the YellowJackets - Josh Bishop, Hunter Hembrough, Anthony Martinez, Martin Pflaum, Edwin Raudales, Eric Reyes and Patrick Tchekane – who were all playing in their final home game at the LeTourneau Soccer Field.

The YellowJackets close out the regular season with three road contests, starting with a contest at Concordia (Texas) in Austin on Friday, October 25th at 3 p.m.
