Jones' Monster Night Leads Jackets Over Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - This season, when LeTourneau's needed a big play, junior Justin Jones delieved. On Thursday on the road against the Ozarks, when the Jackets needed a big win, Justin Jones delieved in a big way.

The junior from Waxahachie, Texas went for a career high 31 points and pulled down a game high eight boards to lead LeTourneau to an 82-76 win over the Eagles.

Senior Deitrich Williams started the scoring with a jumper followed by a three by the Ozarks (7-18, 4-15 ASC). Jones then made the next three baskets to counter a three by the Eagles as the Jackets (11-13, 10-8 ASC) took an early 8-6 lead.

Senior Cristian Driver buried a three to make it 11-6 followed by a three point play by Jones to make it 14-8. Jones went on to score the next eight points after that and increase the LeTourneau lead to 22-14.

The Jackets then got offense from their bench as sophomore Josh Thornton, sophomore Paul All, and freshman Chris Hynes all pitched in to get the LeTourneau lead out to double digit with 7:59 to go in the first half. 

LeTourneau began to cool down a bit from the field as the Ozarks were able to erase the 16 point deficit and get it back into single digits, but Jones finished the half scoring eight of the final 10 points to give his team a 45-38 halftime lead.

Jones scored 24 points in the first half on an incredible 11-for-11 from the field.

The Eagles came out blazing though as they went on a quick 8-0 run to take a 46-45 lead. Jones eventually had to go to the bench due to foul trouble.

However, All stepped up and made big plays in the post while freshman Ladaria Brown and D. Williams began to find a groove and tie the game at 54 with 11:42 to go in the game.

The two teams battled back and forth as they would exchange the lead multiple times throughout the second half.

Junior Chad Williams, fresh off a huge game against East Texat Baptist, hit a couple of huge jumper to give LeTourneau the lead and then extend it to three.

The Jackets then got aggressive in the paint, finding lanes and going hard at the Eagles and forcing fouls to get to the free throw line. From there, LeTourneau was nearly flawless, going 10-of-14 from the free throw line in the final 4:32 of the game. They were able to ice the game and force defensive stops to pull away and win, 82-76.

In addition to Jones' huge game, All was key off the bench, playing 22 minutes for an injured Kendrae Carter and scoring nine points on 4-of-7 shooting. Brown, C. Williams, and Thornton each had eight points while D. Williams, Brown, and Hynes had five assists each. The Jackets had a season high 20 assists in this game.

LeTourneau shot a blazing 53% from the field and 75% from the free throw line. They outrebounds the Eagles 35-25 and were even in turnovers with 12 each.

There were no changes in the ASC East tonight as LeTourneau, Mississippi College, and Louisiana College all won their games. The Jackets can clinch with a win over Texas-Dallas on Saturday or a Louisiana College loss to Texas-Tyler. A LeTourneau win and Mississippi College loss will clinch the Jackets the No. 3 seed in the East.
