Box Score The LeTourneau University men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie against Schreiner University on Saturday at Mountaineer Field in Kerrville.

The Yellow Jackets (0-1-1) and the Mountaineers (0-1-1) each had six shots on goal in the tie with the home team holding a slight advantage in shots, 13 to 12. LeTourneau goalkeeper sophomore Patrick Barba III came off the bench to play the final 65 minutes of the contest and kept the Mountaineers off the scoreboard with four saves between the posts.

Schreiner got on the board, first, when Zach Howard was able to get the home team on the scoreboard on a penalty kick in the 18th minute when the Yellow Jackets were whistled for a foul in the box.

Later in the half, LeTourneau rallied for the equalizer with three shot attempts at the Mountaineers' goal. First, junior Nick Novak had a shot that was saved by SU goalkeeper Scott Teatleman. Then, in the 30th minute, an attempt by freshman Adam Schultz hit a full volley from 40 yards out that hit off the crossbar. Freshman Raul Saldana gathered the rebound and shot the ball from 25 yards out bending it into the upper right hand corner of the goal to tie the contest at 1.

Both teams had threats for the remainder of the contest but were unable to find the game-winning goal. LeTourneau head coach Matthew Haesecke said he was very pleased with his team's effort and he looks forward to seeing them continue to grow.

Next, the Yellow Jackets will continue their eight-match stretch to open the season away from the friendly confines of the Joyce Family Athletic Village when they face the University of Dallas on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 4:30 p.m.
