Box Score Tobias Winter of Birmingham-Southern College, who is ranked No. 10 in the region, knocked in a rebound shot in the 106th minute to hand the LeTourneau University men's soccer team a heartbreaking 2-1 loss on Saturday night in the BSC Invitational.
The Yellow Jackets (0-3-1) were able to play aggressive defense and kept the host Panthers in check throughout the contest. Head Coach Matthew Haesecke expressed that he was very proud of his team's effort against the Panthers.
Facing a 1-0 deficit for the first 83 minutes, LeTourneau failed to back down to the regionally-ranked foe. Freshman Adam Schultz and his Yellow Jackets teammates broke through and equalized in the 83rd minute after a successful pass from junior Xavier Scarlett.
The LeTourneau offense continued to put pressure in search of the game-winning goal in the closing minutes of regulation as Schultz had two attempts sail wide and an attempt by Scarlett was blocked in the final seconds of the first 90 minutes.
Birmingham Southern (5-0) got on the board in the 33rd minute when Jeremy Evans scored on the Panthers' 12th shot of the first 45 minutes. The LeTourneau defense anchored by sophomore goalie Joe Myers, who made 15 saves, kept them off the scoreboard until the game-winning goal by Winter.
The Yellow Jackets will wrap up its participation in the BSC Invitational on Sunday at noon when they take on Sewanee.
