Strong All-Around Effort Comes Up Short for LeTourneau Men's Soccer

Box Score The LeTourneau University men's soccer team lost to Millsaps, 2-1, on Sunday in Memphis, Tennessee in its final game of the Rhodes Classic.

The YellowJackets (1-6-1) put forth a solid effort according to head coach Matthew Haesecke in the defeat. "Despite the outcome, it was our best game of the season. I couldn't be more proud of my team. They played hard for a full 90 minutes."

Millsaps (3-4-1) went on the board for a 1-0 advantage in the 14th minute when Anthony Lazarra scored on a header to the back post. In an attempt to equalize for the remainder of the half, LeTourneau managed to challenge the Majors' goalkeeper Jonathan Huebbe.

In the second half, each team continued to possess the ball and put pressure on the opposing defense.  Shots by the YellowJackets' Edwin Raudales and Mario Lopez were saved by the Majors' reserve goalkeeper Charlie Edwards. Later in the half, a header attempt by LETU's Hunter Swift went wide in the 65th minute.

The Majors added an insurance goal in the 66th minute when Lukas Elmhammar scored for a 2-0 lead. Despite continued pressure by the LETU offense, they were unable to find the back of the net to draw any closer.

Next, LeTourneau will turn its sights towards the rigors of the ASC, where they will host East Texas Baptist on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
