LeTourneau Closes Out Regular Season with win over Mississippi College

The LeTourneau University men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 6-3 win over Mississippi College on Monday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex in Clinton, Miss.
 
The YellowJackets (13-6, 7-3 ASC) started the day with wins at No. 2 doubles – Kendall Beggs and Sindre Johnsgaard and at No. 3 doubles – Morgan Weaver and Michael McLaughlin. For Beggs and Johnsgaard, the duo improves their mark to 3-2 on the season; meanwhile; Weaver and McLaughlin improve to 5-2. Weaver, Beggs and McLaughlin have all posted 13 wins in doubles on the season.
 
LeTourneau picked up wins at No. 1, 2, 3 and 6 singles to clinch the 6-3 victory. Sophomore Laird Beaty continues to have a strong sophomore campaign with his win at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Matthew Martin. The win extends his winning streak to eight on the season and his No. 2 singles record to 13-1. Also winning in straight sets was junior Sindre Johnsgaard at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Dudley Lampton. For Johnsgaard, he improves to 14-3 overall and 7-3 against ASC foes.
 
For junior Kendall Beggs, at No. 1 singles, he went three sets with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Christian Branning. The win is his 11th on the season. The easiest victory on the day for LeTourneau came at No.6 singles with sophomore Michael McLaughlin defeating Steven McKay, 6-1, 6-0.
 
LeTourneau will now turn its sights to the 2014 ASC Tennis Championships which get underway on Friday, April 25. The YellowJackets, who enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed, will face No. 4 seed - Hardin-Simmons University at 4:30 p.m. at the Summers Tennis Center in Tyler, Texas.
