The LeTourneau University men's tennis team lost to McMurry, 9-0 and American Southwest Conference West Division favorite Hardin-Simmons, 6-3 on Saturday to begin the 2016 season.
 
The YellowJackets (0-2) quickly fell behind to McMurry with a pair of 9-7 defeats at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles and an 8-4 loss at No. 2 doubles. The Warhawks swept all six singles matches in straight sets en route to the 9-0 win.
 
In the nightcap, LeTourneau started the match with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles by the tandem of junior Tyler Grove and Caleb Epps, who defeated Kennan Nash and Chandler Livingston. Seniors Michael McLaughlin and Morgan Weaver lost at No. 1 doubles by an 8-5 margin to Andrew Eurek and Alex Hunt and sophomore Robby Bundy and junior Curtis Martin lost 8-2 at No. 3 doubles to Frankie Sanchez and B.J. Farmakis.
 
In singles play, four matches were decided in tie breaker with each team winning two. LeTourneau freshman Caleb Epps picked up his first career singles win at No. 4 singles outlasting Michael Boyd, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (16-14) and senior Michael McLaughlin was victorious at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) over Griffin Weinkam. The Cowboys secured the match with straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 6 and wins in tiebreakers at No. 3 and No. 5.
 
The YellowJackets will next welcome back LETU alumni with a match on Friday, Feb. 13 at 11:30 a.m.
