The LeTourneau basketball teams hosted their annual alumni games on Saturday as a large group of former YellowJackets made the trip back to Longview for a fun afternoon.
One Team, One Family has been the motto for the event the past two years and that was evident throughout the day as everyone came together for basketball, food and fellowship.
Returning for the LeTourneau women were recent graduates
Ashley Stephens and
Alexandria Burroughs from the class of 2016. Alexis Wighaman who played four years and also spent a season as a student coach was back in a YellowJacket uniform along with Colleen Main from the class of 2011. Main was the winner of the halftime 3-point challenge sponsored by Whataburger.
Ashley Stephens now works at Math-A-Matics as a tutor in Houston.
Alexandria Burroughs is now a bond supervision officer and also works as a basketball coach at Episcopal High School in Houston.
Alexis Wighaman is a personal trainer Houston.
Colleen Main is a second grade teacher in Fort Worth.
On the men's side there were 13 YellowJackets back on the floor as the event continues to grow each year. A good mix of young and not-as-young alumni were back on the court and put on a great show for everyone in attendance. It was a great tune-up for the LeTourneau men's squad before they tip off the season next week.
Chris Hynes from the class of 2016 is working as a skill development coach in Houston. Chris played three years as a point guard and finished his final season as a student coach.
Jake Kennedy also from the class of 2016 is working on his Master of Management in Energy degree at Tulane University in New Orleans.
Aaron Frizell was the lone member of the 2015 class. Frizell is working at GM Financial in Arlington.
Justin Jones from the class of 2014 earned his degree from LeTourneau this past May is now an assistant women's basketball coach at Houston Baptist University. Jones is ranked seventh in LETU history in field goals made with 450 in his 51 games for the YellowJackets.
Also in attendance from the class of 2014 was Kendrae Carter. Carter resides in Longview where he works as a physical education teacher and coach.
Deitrich Williams represented the class of 2013 and was the winner of the Raising Cane's 3-point challenge at halftime of the men's game. Williams works as a business consultant in Fort Worth.
Jayme Bradley brought his sharp shooting back to Solheim Arena. Bradley, a 2011 graduate, is a high school basketball coach in Tatum.
Bo "Oz" Ostarticki returned from the class of 2010 and put on a few dunks during warmups for the crowd. Oz lives in San Antonio where he works in the medical sales field.
Dewones "Sipp" Smith is always a crowd favorite and the 2009 graduate still has the competitive spirit. Sipp is tied for third all-time in career 3-point field goals with 153, he scored 1,229 points. Despite what his teammates say he also dished out 190 assists over his four years at LeTourneau. Smith is a teacher and basketball coach at Spring Hill ISD.
Dusty Evers played alongside Sipp and left his name in the LeTourneau record books after his career. Evers is eighth all time in scoring for the YellowJackets with 1,314 points in 100 games, he also recorded 46 blocks in his four seasons. Dusty works as a chemical operator in Diana, Texas.
James Williams and Marcus Coleman represented the class of 2007. Williams works as general manager in Dallas, Coleman also lives in Dallas and is a financial consultant.
Chris Grotemat has been a big supporter of YellowJacket basketball and the 2003 graduate played in the game despite being in recovery from an automobile accident and having metal plates in his wrist. Grotemat is a high school basketball coach at West Rusk.
A few YellowJacket alums that didn't play in the game were Tom Waller from the class of 1988 who is the all-time leader in blocked shots with 148. Waller also added 561 rebounds (8
th) and 1,278 points (9
th) over his four years at LeTourneau. Tom works as a program manager at AECOM in Woodlands, Texas.
Honorary coach Duane Spaeth was on the bench for the game as he represented the YellowJacket class of 1960. Spaeth is a retired mayor from Hideaway, Texas and has been a huge supporter of LeTourneau men's basketball.
The YellowJacket women will kick off their season with an exhibition game against NCAA Division I member Northwestern State on November 11
th in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
The LeTourneau men will play on Saturday, November 12
th in an exhibition matchup with DI Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
