The LeTourneau University men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches, losing to regionally-ranked Southwestern University (8-1) and Austin College (5-4).
Overnight rain delayed the start of the day for the YellowJackets but when the weather cleared it was a pair of tough matches. Against the Pirates, the lone win for LeTourneau came at No. 3 singles by junior
Tyler Grove (pictured), who won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Sam McCready.
All three doubles matches were tightly contested to start the day. Seniors
Michael McLaughlin and
Morgan Weaver lost a tough match at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. Grove and freshman
Caleb Epps dropped a 8-2 decision at No. 2 and sophomore
Robby Bundy and junior
Curtis Martin lost 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
To wrap up the day, the YellowJackets lost a hard-fought decision to Austin College. Martin and Bundy picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, 8-5 for the YellowJackets. McLaughlin won at No. 1 singles, winning both of his sets in tiebreakers (7-6, 7-6) to tie the match at 2. Grove picked up his second singles win of the day with a three-set win at No. 2 singles as he was victorious by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8). Junior
Kevin Warren tallied his first win of the spring with a convincing 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
Wins at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles by the 'Roos tied the match at 4 and the winner of the match would be decided at No. 3 singles between the YellowJackets'
Morgan Weaver and Josh Granberry. Weaver evened the match at a set with a 6-4 win in the second set, sending the match to a tiebreaker. Granberry outlasted Weaver, 10-6 to lead Austin College to the 5-4 win of the match.
The YellowJackets are back in action, next weekend, when they host Jacksonville College on Friday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. and will travel to Shreveport on Saturday, Feb. 27 at noon to face Centenary.
