Volleyball Puts Four on CSC Academic All-District Team

LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau volleyball seniors Aubree McCann and Emma Smith, along with juniors Nora Lockhart and Maddy Hirneise were all named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® team, announced the organization on Tuesday.

CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

In her first year with the YellowJackets, McCann -- from Kilgore, Texas -- garners her first career CSC Academic All-District nod. McCann was fifth in the SCAC with 3.13 kills per set and totaled 226 for the season, despite missing eight matches due to injury. She had a season-high 21 kills in the SCAC Tournament and had five 15-plus kill performances on the year.

McCann graduated in December with her degree in criminal justice. She earned conference academic honors from both the American Southwest Conference and the Great American Conference at two previous institutions.

Smith, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, also collects her first CSC Academic All-District selection. Smith earned All-SCAC honorable mention after leading the team with a career-high 239 kills (2.19 per set) to go with 59 total blocks for the season. She had a career-high 18 kills with a .486 hitting percentage in a win over Concordia Texas and produced eight double-digit kill matches for the year.

Majoring in mechanical engineering, Smith is a two-time conference all-academic honoree.

Lockhart, a junior from Highland Village, Texas, becomes a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree. An All-SCAC second team selection this year, Lockhart was third in the SCAC in hitting percentage at .322 (second-best in program history) with a career-high 167 kills. She added 81 total blocks, which ranked fourth in the SCAC, and had 0.83 blocks per set.

Majoring in civil engineering, Lockhart is a two-time conference all-academic selection to go with her two CSC Academic All-District nods.

Hirneise, a junior from Hickory Creek, Texas, earns her first career CSC Academic All-District honor. The junior totaled 475 digs (5.00 per set) to rank fifth in the SCAC. She collected SCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 8 after tallying 7.09 digs per set the week prior. Hirneise had a career-best 31 digs in a win at Covenant.

Majoring in aviation management, Hirneise is a three-time conference all-academic selection.

To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-America® program students must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA, be a significant contributor to the team (having started in 66 percent of the team's games or played in over 90 percent of those games), and be at least a sophomore academically.
