PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The LeTourneau men's track and field team set two program records and multiple season-bests and personal records in the indoor finale at the 10th annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic over the weekend, hosted by Division II Pittsburg State.
The YellowJackets posted one program record and six total season bests on the weekend.
"The men had an amazing weekend at Pitt State. Every guy had a special performance, and they brought the energy throughout the meet," said director of track and field
Dillon May. "These two-day meets are great preparation for our conference championship, and the guys handled the travel, hotel, and competition real well. They had great attitudes the whole time."
The first program record came in the distance medley relay event on Friday. The quartet of
Grayson Gaddis,
Jean-Michel Ndiaye,
Hudson McGuire, and
Walker Reeves set the program mark at 10:23.50 to place 11th overall in the event. The time was 22 seconds faster than the previous best mark set in 2022 and is currently the top DMR time in the West region.
The second program record was in the 4x400.Â
Sam Wyatt, Gaddis, McGuire, and Ndiaye finished in 3:28.40 to set the program mark by two seconds.
"The 4x400m relay record is really a testimony of this. To keep their focus for two long and exciting days, after all those events, and to then be able to drop the fastest relay in program history; all the credit goes to them, their determination, and support of one another," added May. "I'm really proud of how they competed this weekend and represented our Lord and savior Jesus Christ in everything they did."
Reeves was part of another season best time as he raced to a personal record mark of 4:16.76 and placed 14th overall in the mile run. The time is currently third in the West region this season. Gaddis also competed in that event and finished in 4:34.06.
Two more top season marks occurred on Friday.
Colton Fears set a personal record and a top season height in the pole vault as he cleared 4.45 meters (14'7.25) to place third overall in the event and is seventh in the West region currently. In the 60-meter prelims,
Seth Barker posted a time of 7.31 to set a personal record and a top season time for the YellowJackets.
Ndiaye had a top-10 finish in the high jump with his height of 1.85 meters (6'0.75) as he placed eighth.
On Saturday,
Elijah Oudyn produced a personal record in the 3,000-meter run as he finished in 9:09.77. In the 800-meter, McGuire set his indoor personal record at 2:01.27.
Ben Sweatt posted a distance of 12.64 meters (41'5.75) in the triple jump.
In the 4x400, it was
Sam Wyatt, Gaddis, McGuire, and Ndiaye finishing in 3:28.40.
