SUWANEE, Ga. -- A senior from Granbury, Texas, and a special education major, Kyleigh Chavez has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Female Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning Oct. 26.

The SCAC Character and Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics and serve their campus and community.

Chavez is a four-year member of the LeTourneau women's soccer program and has played in 27 career matches.

Chavez has been an instrumental part of the women's soccer program and the athletics department throughout her four years. She currently serves as the President of LeTourneau's CADE (Center for Athletics Discipleship and Excellence) initiative, which helps to disciple athletes in their spiritual formation. Chavez has also held leadership positions for LeTourneau's chapter of FCA during her sophomore and junior years.

She has helped across the campus as a student ambassador, spiritual life assistant, and assisted with the Prayer and Praise team. Chavez volunteered with the kids' ministry at Pursuit Church and was a lead for a mission trip through LeTourneau's Camp Beloved and Beyond during her junior year.

Chavez was a SCAC Academic Honor Roll selection last season.

"As a senior, Kyleigh has strongly taken the role of the spiritual leader in the locker room helping out girls and seeing them for more than soccer players," said head coach Karrigan Falber. "Whether it is on the field or off, her presence to the team is important."
