Jackets Go Cold From Field in Loss to Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. - The LeTourneau YellowJackets returned to action on Saturday as they took on the Mississippi College Choctaws for the second time this season. The Choctaws got some revenge on their home floor as they pulled away in the second half to knock off the Jackets, 69-43.

The Choctaws (11-8, 8-6 ASC) opened up the scoring with a jumper from Brandon Blake, but LeTourneau (9-11, 8-6 ASC) responded with a three pointer from freshman Ladaria Brown and a jumper from junior Chad Williams

The Jackets went on top 10-5 after a pair of layup from junior Justin Jones and senior Kendrae Carter, but Mississippi College responded with a 12-0 run to go on top 17-10 midway through the first half. However, the Jackets outscored the Choctaws 9-2 in the next four minutes thanks to five points from senior Cristian Driver and buckets from sophomore Josh Thornton and senior Deitrich Williams to tie it at 19.

From there, LeTourneau hit no baskets for the next five minutes and the Choctaws went on an 11-0 run. The Jackets closed the half with a jumper from Thornton to cut the deficit to 30-21 at the break.

Driver's six points to start the second half to go with free throws from D. Williams made it a three point game early on in the second half, but Mississippi College responded with a 20-6 run to increase their lead to 17. 

The Jackets poor shooting continued as they could not fight their way back into the game and eventually fell.

Driver led the way with 11 points while C. Williams added eight points. Jones led all rebounders with five and D. Williams had seven points and three assists.

The Jackets shot 29% from the field and 20% from behind the arch. The Jackets only converted six shots in the second half. They also struggled on the rebouding end, falling 43-25 including 17 offensive rebounds for MC.

LeTourneau will look to bounce back on the road as they take on Louisiana College in Pineville, La. on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. or 20 minutes after the women's game. You can listen to all the action live on Stretch Internet.
