YellowJackets Lose to Austin College in Dig Pink Contest

Box Score Despite three YellowJackets with double-digit kills, the LeTourneau University volleyball team dropped a 12-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 decision to Austin College on Tuesday night in the annual Dig Pink contest at Solheim Arena.

Freshman Dolores Kroese had her fifth double double of the season with 13 kills and 13 digs for LeTourneau, who falls to 6-16 on the season. Sophomore setter Sarah Krippner had her team-best seventh double double of the season, recording 47 assists and 13 digs in the defeat. Joining Kroese with double-digit kills were sophomore Alexia Thomas and freshman Elyse Wright, who had 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

The Kangaroos got a match-high 24 kills from Shelby Eaves, who hit at a .270 clip on the evening to improve their record to 15-11 on the season. Eaves had a double double in the win, recording 17 digs to go along with the 24 kills. Austin College rallied from dropping the first set, 25-12, to win the next three sets.

LeTourneau started the match, winning the first set on the strength of a .265 hitting percentage and six blocks. Thomas had four of her 12 kills in the first set to lead the YellowJackets.

In the next two sets, the Kangaroos rallied behind Eaves, who had 21 kills in the next three sets including eight in the third set. In the second set, the two teams went back and forth as the set was tied at 23 until back-to-back kills Reygan Holloman and Alyson Hicks sparked the visitors to even the match at a set apiece.

In the third set, Austin College built an early 6-2 lead but on three occasions LeTourneau would get as close as a one-point deficit but Eaves and the Kangaroos outhit LETU by a .217 to .178 margin for the set.

In the fourth set, LeTourneau held a 14-10 lead on the strength of its service game but the visitors clawed back to tie the set at 17. Back-to-back kills by Eaves put Austin College up by a 19-17 margin but LeTourneau would not concede. They came back to tie the set at 22 but a 3-0 spurt gave the visitors the set and the match.

The YellowJackets will now travel to Tyler to face ASC rivals, University of Texas-Dallas on Friday at 5 p.m. followed by matchups
