Volleyball Welcomes in Talented Recruiting Class (Part II)

Mackenzie Davies, Alyssa Eden, and Erin Fort are set to join the LeTourneau volleyball team in 2013.

LONGVIEW - Head Coach Scott Peluso of the LeTourneau volleyball team has several commitments to the 2013 recruiting class thus far. This talented bunch of young ladies will look to make an impact immediately on the court. Here's a look at the next three of the student-athletes set to make their mark in 2013.

Erin Fort, Setter/Right Side Hitter, Littleton, Colorado (Bear Creek High School)

RecruitErin

Erin Fort comes to LeTourneau University out of Littleton, Colo., where she was a three year letterwinner in volleyball and a two year letterwinner in track and field. While at Bear Creek, she was looked at as a leader of her team and excelled at the setter and right side hitter position. She also got it done in the classroom, earning first team Academic All-State her junior and senior season and also earned Athletics Honor Roll both her junior and senior seasons. Fort comes in planning to major in International Business as she prepares for the 2013 season.

Coach Peluso's Take: "Erin comes to us from my home state of Colorado very near to where I grew up. I am excited to have her.  She will be trained mostly as a setter, but will also get reps as a hitter. Erin has nice hands and good location. She sets a very hittable ball but gives us more versatility with her experience as a hitter. I think she will adapt to the speed of the college game very quickly and will give us some depth in the setting position that we have been lacking in my first two years here."

Mackenzie Davies, Defensive Specialist/Right Side Hitter, Murrieta, California (Calvery Murrieta Christian School)

RecruitMckenzie

Mackenzie Davies comes to LeTourneau out of Murietta, Cal., where she was a three year letterwinner on the volleyball team. She started out strong on the JV squad her freshman year, earning team captain and Most Valuable Player. From there, Davies racked up awards including the All-Warrior Team and the Scholar-Athlete Award. During varsity time, she was the team's captain and also earned the Practicing Attitudes Christ Taught (PACT) Award which was given to the student-athlete based on leadership in character and spirituality. Davies will come in as a Biomedical Engineering major as she takes the floor in 2013.

Coach Peluso's Take: "Makenzie comes to us from Southern California where she has played against some great competition her whole career. She is a true utility player. She can play front row as a hitter form the left or right and also has solid ball control and defensive skills in any back row position. She brings high energy to the floor and adds much needed depth to our team. She is a great teammate and a perfect addition to our university."

Alyssa Eden, Right Side Hitter, Jacksonville, Texas (The Brook Hill School)

RecruitAlyssa

Alyssa Eden comes to LeTourneau from Jacksonville, Texas, where she was an all-around athlete at The Brook School, partaking in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. Early in her career, Eden earned second team All-District in all four sports she played and then first team All-District in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She also went on to earn honorable mention All-State, honorable mention All-East Texas, and Newcomer of the Year in basketball. She also earned Academic All-State in volleyball, basketball, and softball as she  maintained a 4.0 GPA. She is looking to major in Nursing while at LETU as the 2013 season draws near.

Coach Peluso's Take: "Alyssa is a great athlete. She played multiple sports in high school and was successful in all of them including leading her high school volleyball team to an undefeated District record. Alyssa can set or hit from the right side. We will train her primarily as a hitter but she will also get reps as a setter. She adds some size to our roster and I feel that she will develop into a big presence at the net."

Peluso goes on to add, "As with our other 2013 recruits, these young ladies are great fits for our program and are coming to LeTourneau University for all the right reasons. This class is full of high character and solid volleyball players who want to grow in their faith in Christ during their college years. God has truly blessed our program with the addition on each of these young ladies."
