Chris Maier served as the first coach in the history of the LeTourneau athletics department.

Maier was the head coach of the LeTourneau Technical Institute men's basketball team during the 1946-47 season. 

The men's basketball program at LeTourneau continues to be the longest-running program in the University's history.
