LeTourneau Athletics Hall of Fame
When Willi Pikett '74 shot a round of 69 in the LeTourneau College Intramural Golf Tournament in the fall of 1971, then-Athletic Director Keith McCoy knew he had to make golf an intercollegiate sport at LeTourneau.
Upon learning of Pikett's score, McCoy declared that LeTourneau would initiate an intercollegiate program the following spring. Pikett was the center piece around the newly-formed program and served not only as a player, but as a coach and recruiter for the next two years.
Under Pikett's leadership and playing ability with consistent scores around 70, the YellowJackets finished third in the Big State Conference in 1974. He shot a 68 in the final round of the 1974 Big State tournament and was a top-10 finisher at conference each season.
